All over the world organisations are experimenting with new tools and methods for increasing effectiveness and organizational agility. One pattern we see emerging in this new paradigm is self-organized, semi-autonomous teams, energized by a personal sense of calling to serve effectively their collective purpose. At the same time it’s becoming clear that each organization’s context is unique and that prescriptive, “one size fits all” solutions can cause more harm than good.
Sociocracy 3.0 (also known as S3) is a free, modular and principles-based practical guide for people wishing to collaborate more effectively and grow happy, humane organisations.
It builds on sociocratic practices, integrating principles from Agile, Lean, and Non-Violent Communication and provides a rich variety of compatible options to choose from and adapt, according to unique context and needs.
S3 acts as a “social technology” for raising self-accountability and engagement in teams while promoting respect, diversity and inclusion. It supports distribution of power to all, within interconnected domains of accountability, freeing people up to decide and act. It facilitates co-creativity, fosters transparency and guarantees equivalence for all concerned.

Prerequisites
No prior knowledge of Agile or Sociocracy is necessary. Prepare by thinking about and identifying some key challenges that organisations you work with are facing.
About the course journey
Our journey together will focus mainly on an exploration of S3 principles and processes, consisting of a balanced programme with a combination of theory, practice and reflection.
Day 1 focuses largely on theory and learning about the basic elements of the S3 practical guide, including an exploration of its principles. Be prepared for learning, un-learning and for your brain to get hot!
Day 2 we move via demonstrations to practice, where you will apply S3 patterns for tapping collective intelligence and decision making, touch base with a few more patterns and review learning so far.
Day 3 continues with reflections on effective ways to pull in S3 patterns in organizations. Later you’ll learn about and experience Driver mapping, a pattern that enables fast start-up when a group of people wish to self-organise and collaborate together around a shared Driver. We close with open-space sessions where you can focus attention into areas most supporting integration of course content and allowing further chances to apply patterns in practice should you choose.
